Strengthening Farming and OUR Rural Community
I love living in Central Saanich!
I am a passionate advocate for agriculture and an established community volunteer. I'm running for Council because I believe that the trust between residents and the Municipal Hall is broken.
I want to focus on greater public involvement in Council decisions, increased transparency in decision-making, and sustainable development that both complies with the Official Community Plan and takes infrastructure needs into account before decisions are made.
Where I Stand
Accessible, responsive leadership
Your voice matters! I believe that good policy and good governance starts with listening. I will respond to your emails and phone calls. I will hold regular “meet me for coffee” public meetings. I will move to amend the Procedures Bylaw so that residents have a greater voice at Council meetings.
Transparent, accountable decisions
I want you to hold Council to account every day, not just once every four years. We need genuine public consultation, including accessible, clearly-worded surveys and the input of advisory committees, before any decisions are made. There will be no previously determined outcomes. In camera meetings will be minimized, and decisions from closed meetings will be announced as soon as possible.
Respecting agriculture as the foundation of our rural community
As someone who was raised on a farm, has three agricultural degrees, and who worked as Professional Agrologist for both the Provincial government and farm organizations, I want to be a strong voice for agriculture at the Council table. Bylaws and Official Community Plans, Agricultural Land Reserve applications and road and ditch maintenance all impact farmers. Having a strong local food system benefits all of us!
